I'm a bit dense about this sort of thing. How exactly am I supposed to have acquired the clock?

Princeton Theological Seminary, B.D., '68. Calvin was once my great hero. Still have his picture on my bedroom wall, given by one of my roommates at The U. of Chi Grad School, in '65. More recently I celebrate July 10 as the birthday of Marcel Proust.

One of my all-time heroes of the faith. What a great man, and greatly used of God. Thank You, Lord, for Your servant, Jean Cauvin, without whom we would be still struggling in the darkness of Roman Arminianism, that man-exalting heresy.

A reply to this story was received from the director of
H. Henry Meeter Center for Calvin Studies at
Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary. The story is essentially correct. Calvin did write to his friend Guillaume Farel announcing that he was planning on getting married and indicating a date by which he thought the wedding would take place. However, Calvin did have a specific woman in mind. Calvin was courting a young woman at the time, and was simply awaiting her answer. He does seem to have been premature in making arrangements before being sure she would accept. The information can be found in Richard Stauffer, _The Humanness of John Calvin_ (Nashville: Abingdon Press, 1971).

On the lighter side...
As I was born 400 years after the university John Calvin founded, my parents named me after his wife....
My late father had some literature stating a funny story about Calvin but I can't locate the article anymore. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this John Calvin story. The story is such: Calvin was sure God would provide a wife for him so he secured the date and church, asked his buddy, Farel, to officiate. Calvin was very disappointed when the day came and went and there was no bride. God does provide but you do have to do some looking for a mate and some courting before a wedding can take place.

Calling for your Calvin stories and anecdotes! I've started a blog devoted to the lighter side of Calvin, while also calling attention to the quincentenary and to more heavy duty web resources, such as this site. Drop by and share some your best Calvin stories! Thanks.
